The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2016 general elections, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has called on the kingmakers in Akropong to ensure a peaceful succession to the Okuapeman stool.

The stool has become vacant following the death of Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa III, Paramount Chief of the Akuapem Traditional Area.

He died on August 2, 2015 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.

Nana Akufo-Addo who attended the once week celebration of the late Okuapemhene Friday told family members to ensure that the selection of the heir to the throne is done without acrimony.

“We have come to express our condolence to the bereaved family. But in doing so, we will also appeal to the family and the kingmakers to ensure the peaceful selection of the heir to the throne,” he’s said while addressing a gathering of the chiefs and people of the area Friday.

Nana Addo was accompanied by party stalwarts such as former Minister of Finance, Yaw Osafo Marfo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akropong, W. O. Boafo, General Secretary of the party, Kwabena Agyepong, Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, Kingsley Owusu and MP for Akuapem South, and Osei Bonsu Amoah, among many others.

The six divisions of the Akuapem State namely the Gyase at Amanokrom, Adonten at Aburi, Kronti at Akropong, Nifa at Adukrom, Benkum at Larteh and Kyidom at Mamfe are expected to outline the way forward for the Traditional Council anytime soon.

He reigned continuously for 35 years and was said to have brought unity among the various divisions under the Traditional Council.
