I saw my wife being carried away by water – Man recounts sad story

A man has recounted how he watched floodwaters wash her wife away at Teshie Rasta in Accra.

Bernard Kofi Agyei Oppong said all efforts to rescue his wife, Dr Aya Hayfron who was trapped in her Hyundai Accent saloon car proved futile.

Narrating his ordeal on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Tuesday, Mr Oppong said his wife was driving home from church around 10 pm together with two other passengers when the incident occurred.

He said the heavy floods swept away the vehicle after the missing doctor attempted to cross a bridge on a small river called Naa Pra.

The distraught husband said rescuers were unable to save the 32-year-old doctor but managed to save the two passengers who had been offered a lift by the deceased.

Mr Oppong said they her car has been found in the river as rescuers hope to find her alive.

“I know my wife is waiting for me somewhere. I believe she is alive and probably in a hospital”, he bemoaned.

Sir John threatens to embark on naked demo

Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afrieyie is threatening to join traders at the Kejetia market for a naked demonstration over inappropriate resettling plans.

The traders in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi have rejected a directive by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to move their businesses to a different location.

The shop owners at the Central Market fear they may lose their shops after the project is completed.

This is in spite of assurances that shop owners would be the first to be considered when the market is completed.

KMA Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu said a company called Engineering Systems and Services Ltd have been contracted to register shop owners biometrically to ensure equity in distribution when the shops are ready.
